Meaningless and corrupt. Unethical and crap. That is how I love to explain education of today. Talk to any parent and they will agree. I don't say it is bad being educated. However the meaning of education is different from what it actually should be. Education is now a synonym for information. An educated person knows best of the skills in the stream he is educated in. But is that enough? Surely not.
People love to be doctors and schools, colleges love to produce doctors. But is that it? Is it not necessary to become a GOOD doctor, or simply a good person? We are developing in terms of technology, brain, science, and what not. But surely there is lack of effort in making people “good people”. We need schools where children are taught how to behave with their parents, relatives, friends and neighbors, the way they should react when a car bumps into another on road, the way they should call police in case of emergency. . How to survive in this crucial world with truthfulness without any proper guidance. Schools should be the institutions where mathematics teacher should think beyond just teaching mathematics and should primarily concentrate on making students more systematic. That's what mathematics teaches us. In my view and observation 90% of the students never use integration and differentiation in their lives, after their studies. Still we teach them all the way. The point is not to stop teaching this portion to students. However the need is to create a cult where students can concentrate on realizing their dreams, capabilities, talents during school time. This is the best time where they can put the right foundation for the same.
90% of the graduates do not even know what they wish to do after their studies. The path is constructed for them right from the schooling. A typical life of a student remains enclosed between tight compartments of curriculum. A student knows (rather, parents expect) the target is to be one of the first three scorers of the class. If you are a high scorer, move to science, a mediocre will move to commerce and the remaining to arts. (No need to mention the game of peer pressure and society expectations). After one is done with schooling, one has to run for college cut off. This is the junction where students decide their future on the basis of streams taken and cutoffs available, and not on the basis of their dreams, aspirations, will and capabilities. Got over with college and the student finally moves to placement cell and gets on with the job.
In this complete process only 10 percent of students are lucky to make their career in what they dream of. Schools should provide freedom to students to explore themselves and to provide them with opportunity to express their powers fully and not under the cover of scorecards.
